printed shift dress // the average girl's guide

You know you’ve made a good clothing decision when you’re wearing the items inside the package one minute after opening it! Earlier this week, I had the girls over for a mani party (seen on Instagram; post on Monday) when I felt like nothing in my closet worked. Hate that feeling. My husband brought in the mail including a package from White Plum; I opened it and immediately took off my shirt — in the kitchen mind you! — and put on the new blouse (now sold out;  same style as this and more here) and now this dress is a new favorite….. the print, the fit, the ability to mix so many colors with shoes and accessories, and I can take it from work to weekend. I just wore this yesterday. I now desperately need more interesting blouses in my life — this girl has splurged on one too many sale t-shirts in the past.

After seeing bloggers style cute piece from White Plum I was eager to test it out, as I know many of us, myself included, can be hesitant to order from online boutiques new to us. I’m really impressed. The quality of the clothes was impressively good, particularly for the price point, and the shipping and service has been great. See pieces you love? White Plum is generously offering TAGG readers 20% discount; use code AVERAGEGIRL through 10/3.

cocktail: tropical tiki-tini

September 24, 2014

tropical tiki-tini
For TAGG’s last post with Pinnacle, we’re excited to wrap up by sharing one last summer-themed recipe. My Florida, Texas and California friends can enjoy this in the heat for a little while longer but even when it gets chilly out, have a summer throw-back party with a cool take on what we think of a tropical party. You don’t have to go full-out with leis and grass skirts; go a little more modern by infusing the fun colors with cool pieces. While decor is not admittedly my thing, how pretty is this set-up from my super talented friend, Heather, the well-known party planner behind Posh Parties who just launched Posh Style to help people like me enhance events with everything from themes to details like tablescapes, linens and other details (ps: follow on Insta for loads of inspiration!).

Back to the cocktail and Pinnacle, as we’re wrapping up here I must confess how impressed I am by the brand. This recipe is nearly identical to our spiked arnold palmer, however selecting the Tropical Punch Vodka — compared to the citrus — really does create these impressive flavor combinations that I’d serve up to guests in a heartbeat. Pinnacle’s range of 40+ flavors are never overpowering, and in this case, add this light refreshing flavor to balance the tea.

So who’s with me? Ready to pretend it’s summer for a few more months? Check out the Tropical Tiki-Tini recipe below, or watch this fun video to see how to make it in under 30 seconds!

Tropical Tiki-Tini
1 part Pinnacle Tropical Punch Vodka
2 parts Iced Tea (I used unsweeted Publix brand tea)
Ice cubes

Mix together, shake and pour. Imbibe!

With the weather starting to change in some climates, facial moisturizer is as important as ever to combat dry and dull skin. I’ve been on the hunt for a fantastic new option so I was thrilled when so many of you weighed in recently to TAGG’s impromptu Facebook poll inquiring about your favorite picks. The options run the gamut, from the classic to organic to more luxe finds you swear by. Must mention that three of you swear by pure coconut oil, which is said to absorb surprisingly well and is certainly an affordable, multi-tasking find that has so many benefits.

outfit: floral and flouncy

September 18, 2014

floral print and flouncy skirt
While shopping for my NYC trip a few weeks ago I was on the hunt for a fun black skirt. I was searching for a more voluminous midi length option to pair with a crop top but this skirt from Ann Taylor was too good to pass up. The cut, the leather detailing, the fun flouncy style… it just worked, it’s universally flattering and I knew it would be a way more useful addition to my closet. Evidenced yesterday: in addition to being perfect for a night out, I wore this look to a local Chamber business networking breakfast. If you don’t have a great black skirt in your closet right now, I cannot say enough good things (though there’s tough competition: Ann Taylor’s collection is getting better by the minute, evidenced by this assortment!)

floral print and flouncy skirt And, can we chat about this blouse, part of Piperlime’s new branded collection? Admittedly out of my comfort zone with this bold print duo, I half declared to friends I’d never wear this after getting it during a bloggers reception in NYC. Now? Love. Big time. The duo-print is awesome, the fit is great and it’s different than anything I own (sound like question #3 from yesterday?). I am now seriously debating its navy floral print counterpart. Adorable, right? Pair that one with jeans for a casual cool dinner, and preferably fun heels or earrings with a pop of color to complement the prints.
