Let me start off by saying if you are on Instagram and are not yet following Erika (@styleactivist), you are kinda majorly missing out. The girl makes the healthiest dishes look like meals you want to jump through your phone to eat (minor accomplishment!) and she does so in a way that also educates her followers in the process. Watching her fuel her body (yup, I eat, she fuels) was a major catalyst why I realized I needed to stop playing the numbers game and start focusing on how my body felt. It’s remarkable how much she has taught herself and how much she’s grown in the process.
This Philly girl’s posts during Feel Fit February have been so informative (first, opening up about her weight, and then this week, the truth about her eating style; I’ve been so curious!). Now, check out her responses to our questions…. {and thanks again to Erika for stopping by!}
Tell me about yourself, Twitter style… 140 characters or less.
I’m energetic, strong, passionate, and always dressed to kale.
What does Feel Fit February mean to you?
It’s about spreading the word that numbers don’t necessarily translate to health. Just because you are 110 lbs doesn’t mean that your insides look good - there’s so much more to it than weight.
What are your five go to foods that make it easier to live a healthy life?
Avocados, eggs, bananas, kale and raw nuts.
Take it a step further, what are your top 2-3 recipes for a woman with no time who still wants to eat healthy?
Scrambled eggs with veggies topped with avocado! Green smoothies too! You can make a million varieties.
What motivates you each day to continue to eat healthy, exercise?
What I put in, I get back tenfold. Honestly, two of my favorite things to do are work out and cook healthy - it’s taken me years to get to this point but I’ve never felt better! Health and fitness is my career, so my life revolves around it.
Your body is rockin’, girl! What part of you makes you most proud?
My legs. They are strong and can move heavy weight.
My favorite way to exercise/get moving is _________________.
Lifting weights, pull ups, handstand push ups, anything that makes me stronger. I do CrossFit and I’ve never felt more proud of my body.
Sometimes I feel like I need/want to indulge, be it during a date night or just hanging around. Any tips to curb or just say no?
98% of the time I eat clean, so when I feel like indulging a little, I don’t feel any guilt. I let myself have a nice burger on the weekends with sweet potato fries if I want. If I have a sweet tooth, I’ll make paleo chocolate chip cookies on Sundays. I believe in balance within reason.
Be honest, what’s your biggest challenge with maintaining a pretty strict healthy regime?
Going out to eat is really tricky. I’m really picky about food quality so 99% of our food is made at home. I love going out for a bite with my boyfriend or friends, but restaurants serve a lot of crap so it makes it really difficult. We’ll find somewhere that serves local, organic food if we can - if not, it’s a salad with grilled chicken.
What are your lifestyle goals for 2013?
Spend less time on my electronics, more time being active, present and outside under the sun in the garden, on a bike ride or a run with my dog Olive.
My favorite song to get me moving is ________.
Thrift Shop by Macklemore! It’s fun and funky.
If I had to select my go-to beauty products, my top three would be ____________.
Skin Ceuticals LHA Cleansing Gel, Michael Todd’s Carrot Antioxidant Serum and Tarte Tinted Moisturizer.
