LillyPulitzer Scalloped Shorts

seersucker short // eyelet short (3 inches) //eyelet short (5 inches) // // print short

Based on yesterday’s Instagram feed, you guys are clearly on board with my all-out obsession with anything scalloped. Proof: these Lilly Pulitzer shorts. My gorgeous (and leggy!) friend wore the 3″ version for a girls night out last week and I had to have them. Good thing my excessive “hinting” worked: the husband got me these and the navy version of the ruffled tank above right for Mother’s Day (score!).

Sizing tip: if you’re between sizes, size down, with the exception of the seersucker print; it’s a thinner material, i.e. less forgiving… though oh-so-cute.

Have to admit I’ve never been a “Lilly” girl despite living so close to Palm Beach, home to all things Lilly Pulitzer. While some of the more classic pieces are not necessarily my style, I’m wow’ed by more recent collections… swear nearly every compliment this week to a friend has been a Lilly item! Must share that the price reflects the quality (the cotton is particularly awesome) - and it rarely goes on sale — but I appreciate that the price is what it is. Don’t you hate when you buy something for 30% off and the next week it’s 40% off? Hate. That.

Back to the good stuff; here are more fun, colorful Lilly for summer that I particularly love…

A few weeks ago I was in the mood to wear this flowery tee so needed to find a way to make it work appropriate. Generally speaking, my workday look can run the gamut, with something like this one day and then more of a formal look if I’m meeting with a law firm client. On this particular day I only had a lunch date so I combined a few pieces for a fun, bright look to help usher in spring.  I find that a structured light-weight blazer always helps formalize a more casual top. summer cocktail club

May 9, 2014

Exciting news in the ‘summer sipping’ front: lots of delicious, fun and easy-to-make cocktails on are the horizon this summer at The Average Girl’s Guide! Thrilled to announce that we’re partnering with Pinnacle Vodka over the next few months to share really great cocktails for a girls night out (or in!), beach and pool days, BBQ’s or just a lazy Netflix binge date night on the couch after work… or after the kids finally go to sleep.

I made a quick trip to NYC last week for Pinnacle’s Cocktail Club, meeting with a handful of other fabulous bloggers, the Pinnacle team, and master mixologist, Brian Van Flandern. This guy was out-of-control amazing! We learned the proper way to shake, stir and mix cocktails. How to pour, how to even out a drink’s sugar or alcohol factor when it’s not tasting just right and more. Don’t worry, I was so fixated on sampling the cocktails — ya know, quality control! — that I can’t promise how much info I retained so it makes me happy that my amateur status should suffice since Pinnacle has an impressive 42 flavors (!) to play around with. Plus, open mentioning my anxiousness about crazy concoctions, the Pinnacle team told me they’re all about the easy cocktails, not ones that require so much time and ingredients that your guests are enjoying your party without you. So. My. Style!

Here’s a few fun photos from the night, along with my favorite new cocktail recipe… Keep Reading —>>

couple, tippy toes

All day long I make decisions. Some mundane, and others really important. For myself, for clients, for staff and for my family. I somehow get through them, often feeling confident in my decisions. I’ve also learned as a blogger to have a certain level of confidence in my decisions since it’s just me sitting on the other side of the screen. Yet, I’ve noticed that when my husband is around I can become paralyzed by indecisiveness.

What should we have for dinner?  {ok, fair enough}

Should we give Sarah water or juice? {really?!}

I’m going to order those diapers, OK? {do we really have a choice here?}

Can I take $20 out of the bank? {why even ask?} Keep Reading —>>
