style

Every time around this time of year every Florida girl (and probably add in at least Texas and California girl) are craving fall attire, despite temperatures rarely dipping below 80 degrees. Sad reality.  Two ways to inject a little fall: 1.. find pieces with touches of leather (err, well faux leather in this case). From dresses to blouses, it just adds edge. I picked up this dress in late August and am just getting to it. 2. Check out your footwear. Booties, particularly open toed with a fun pop of polish showing, is another great tip to have fun for fall, and they’re awesome with dresses, skirts and skinny ankle length denim and pants (definitely work appropriate).

Whenever I’m about to have a closet meltdown I try to take stock in the item I feel like is missing. Earlier this fall, I realized that my favorite black bag with gold hardware (that I’ve worn to death!) didn’t always go — the gold sometimes didn’t match or it just didn’t “go” with my outfit. I personally don’t mind mixing metals yet sometimes… it just doesn’t look right.  I found this small black clutch/crossbody (#3 below) and was immediately obsessed. The all-black hardware pairs perfectly with everything, and don’t you think the all black, even the chain, is kind of extra cool?

Here are 8 looks that I’m coveting for fall; from smaller evening clutches to day bags and shoppers, the look works from work to weekend, from errands to the bar. Don’t anticipate any of these to look dated anytime soon.

gold flash tattoos

You’ve possibly been spying these cool temporary tattoos around town for a few months but this girl just tested them out recently. Wear them around your arm in lieu of a bracelet (and no worries of them getting in the way while typing!), add a few, like hearts, stars or the word love, on the back of your neck or the under side of your wrist, add to your ankle or get inspired by the round-up of real ways to style them.

There are crazier styles out there — I mean you can create major statement necklaces, wear along your forehead and other cool things — but this average girl with a regular job? Those aren’t going to fly. I used Lulu DK tattoos, which are $22 for two sheets (it’s a lot of temporary tats!), and mine have lasted two weeks. Flash Tattoos are the original, and I’ve even found these look-a-likes on Amazon for under $8 per sheet.

Did you know most women are guilty of the same: wearing just 20% of her closet? I’m definitely guilty. It’s so easy to know what works, to stick to the tried and true, yet have been trying to mix it up. I have weeks where each day I’ll wear an item I haven’t worn in months; it’s a helpful way to see why I haven’t been wearing it. Poor fit? Don’t love the colors against your skin tone? How does it wear throughout the day (i.e. does it ride up or get tight)? Or, wow, where has this been hiding? It’s a fun little game because I’ve either rediscovered items, or feel way better about putting it in the donation pile at the end of the day.

For today’s outfits, Target suggested I remix one item in my closet I haven’t worn in at least six months. I picked a classic denim shirt (similar), which while I say I can never have too many, I realized this year that I’m actually not really a button-up blouse kind of girl and thus, have rarely worn mine (and truth: I own two).  While mine has been sitting idle, a denim shirt is really so functional, particularly as the weather starts to cool since it works so well as a layering tool. Here are three ways I played it up:
