For more than a year I’ve been searching for the perfect pair of distressed light denim with a slimmer fit, in contrast to the baggier boyfriend style more common with this wash and style. I even purchased a more relaxed fit last year thinking it would work. It didn’t. It made me feel bigger, sagged in the crotch, and unlike celebs and style bloggers who rock them with major heels and somehow look effortlessly chic, I just wanted them for weekend errands to wear with flats or sandals.
Enter this pair (which perk: are now on sale)! Fun story: I asked my friend Stacy where she found her amazing denim, only to tell me she heard about them from Brianna who discovered them from someone else. Apparently I’m not the only one on the hunt for something like this. Best part? They’re Gap (i.e. stylish yet affordable). Within 24 hours I was in a fitting room with two more friends trying them on.
A few tips for light denim: go for an even wash. This is key. You don’t want fading down your thigh or tush; never, ever flattering. Even more pear shapes can wear a pair like these because of the all over tone. Wear them with flats like this, with heels (I swapped these flats for heels on Friday night) or flip flops, tee and tasseled necklace for the weekend. I’m obsessed with any necklace that has a tassel.
PS: this semi-crop top is one I alluded to a few weeks back while raving about Express’ latest looks. I’ve garnered a gazillion compliments thanks to this top, whose sheer baroque detailing balances the slight boxier cut. It comes in a few colors and is one of my favorite spring additions since determining I needed to find some great blouses instead of stocking up on more and more tees.
