outfit

While quite a few outfit posts at TAGG are work looks, I am going to make an effort to show you more of my casual weekend looks. I often see some of the most put together women looking a bit ho-hum on the weekend (truth) because I think they invest so much effort and dollars into weekday looks that the weekend becomes an after thought. Even while browsing around nice shops in the mall I’m surprised that so many gorgeous women — who are, by the way, shopping for nice clothes — look kind of frumpy. Yoga pants, unflattering oversized tees, too-tight jeans, you name it.

TAGG tip: here’s my tried-and-true weekend formula = Layering tee/tank + cardi + dark wash jeans (flares, boyfriend, skinnies, boot cut, whatever fits you) + bold necklace. I’m often in skinnies because I love that one pair has a hem length that works with flats and heels. Really easy for a quick change (just switch tote to a clutch, too, for night). Also, play with the colors. This cardi would look awesome with a pop of yellow as the tee or cami, or even orange or pink, etc.  You get the idea!

TAGG perk: these new wedges I’m obsessed with? They’re by awesome (and affordable!) brand, MIA. As a treat to you, MIA is giving you 10 percent off these and all others on its web site with code AVGGIRL1. Plus, shipping is free with purchases of $50 or more.

cardigan: gap (spring 2012, recent; similar) / tee:  jeans: old navy (summer 2011; currently $19!) / wedges: c/o mia, ‘rhodes‘ / michael kors tote / j crew bubble necklace via ebay / bracelets: baublebar / ring: david yurman via my mommy / watch: michael kors

Another Monday, another outfit here at The Average Girl’s Guide. By the looks of this outfit you’d never know that I have been addicted to color lately. Pink denim? It doesn’t leave my legs during the weekend (a visit to my Instragram feed will tell you that!), however I just bought these MIA heels via 6pm.com and felt compelled to pair them with a work appropriate look (though I also adore them with the previously mentioned pink denim). Mixing patterns is so “in” right now — I have a striped top + floral skirt that I must photograph for you — and this look is another pattern-mixing option. Staying with the same color palette and pulling in a pattern on an accessory makes it a little easier to ease your way into the trend.

blouse: old navy (winter 2011) / pants: h&m (march 2012) / heels: MIA “glee” via 6pm.com (March 2012) / necklace: forever 21; similar (March 2012) / gold bracelet: derng via etsy (April 2012)

Psssstt: TAGG’s included in this week’s links of the week round-up by International Fashion Bloggers (IFB). This list is always a must read for me to catch up on some of the best blogreads of the week so I’m honored to be included.

Outfit: Obessed Items

January 2, 2012

Each one of the items I’m wearing is less than a month old. That’s a rarity for me, often mixing new with old or old with… older. In my resolutions for 2012 (and life going forward!) I’m committed to purchasing only what I absolutely adore; here are four examples. Found this sparkly tank for a casual NYE — which actually has a gorgeous, slight ombre effect at the bottom — at Express, and paired it with dark skinny jeans plus these sky-high, platform heels from Target. Regarding the tank, instead of opting for a limited-time use version from F21, I spent more on this (plus altered the straps) because I adored it, had been looking for a tank like this and it fit me well. The bag was a Hanukkah gift from the husband who saw it on the blog wish list and this silk skirt was a major find recently at J. Crew for just $22 (still $69 online; $148 reg). The midi length in this bright color works now and will be gorgeous come summer.

Getaway, Naples Ritz Style

September 12, 2011

About two weeks ago the wonderful husband swooped me up and took me to the Naples Ritz-Carlton for a much-needed getaway and a chance to belatedly celebrate our 7th anniversary from earlier in August.

Let me say that I LOVE summer specials in Florida. TAGG tip: there are hundreds of incredible values at some of the best hotels and resorts in the state because apparently the heat keeps visitors away. Take advantage! Rooms that can run you $500+ in season are often going for $200, and typically with extra perks, like our weekend which came with $150 resort credit for the spa and restaurants. This mama took advantage!

Here’s a photo recap of our weekend, with some outfit posts thrown in….
