I turn 35 this month. Yup, 35. I’m actually pretty excited but it still sounds kind of crazy. Me, 35. What happened to 24 and just a few years out of school? As I think of my established self and the person I want to project, I’m increasingly aware of creating a wardrobe that’s sophisticated (yet cozy!), with high quality pieces. Less is more. Doesn’t have to be expensive, just well-made garments with interesting details, textures and materials that make me feel my best, confident (no fidgeting in ill-fitting garments!) and generally, ready to rule the world. Ok, maybe one day.
I have been hearing about Banana Republic’s fresh vibe thanks to a new creative director, Marissa Webb, but haven’t been there in years, until last week.  I was on a dress mission otherwise I could have easily spent hours trying on pretty much the whole store. I’ve seen shared my love with no less than 27 friends. Seriously, check my text feed! I’m really impressed. For example, here’s some of the items I’ve been gravitating to (great draping and silhouettes, totally classic yet modern effortless vibe):
The off-the-rack fit on this dress is amazing (I’m wearing a 4P), and I’m absolutely loving these cool semi-sheer panel details at the top, flattering nip at my natural waist, and pockets. Love you, pockets! The dress has great reviews online, too.
I’m also wearing a few jewels from Rocksbox, a subscription service where you create your preferences and then get a surprise shipment of jewelry each month. Wear it, return it and then they’ll send you another shipment (or purchase anything if you fall in love!). So fun! Love that they have fun brands like House of Harlow, Gorjana, Loren Hope and more. Want to test? Use code “averagegirlsguidexoxo” to get it free for a month!
Dress: Banana Republic // Heels: Ann Taylor (old; similar) // Purse: Rebecca Minkoff (can be worn as a cross body; larger size) // Ring & Bracelet: ℅ Rocksbox // Watch: Kate Spade (on sale!) // Earrings: Kate Spade // Jacket: Kut from the Kloth (older, similar)
Psst… Shopbop’s Big Event Sale is on now! Get up to 25% off on purchases… The clutch in today’s post (which is also a cross body, and comes in a larger size) is such a home run. The all black hardware means it goes with everything — I constantly wear. I’m also a monster fan of an updated version of my favorite drapey jacket, this star ring I wear nearly daily, and this amazing and fun LWD that I just ordered. More favorites currently in my cart or that I’ve been eying (i.e. dreaming about!). Use code BIGEVENT15:

I’m totally getting into that frame of mind too - less is more. I have started buying pieces that will work for years, instead of flippantly spending on a top I don’t need. And yes - it has to be cozy/comfy! You look so cute here; love the red pumps!! : )
Hugs!

BR has slayed it this past year. I have had to really restrict myself from going in there because I know I will be tempted by all the goods!
