Outfit: The Lacy, non-LBD

April 16, 2012

On Saturday, we attended a dinner party at my husband’s boss’ house. Style eek! For events like this you want to impress, now show too much, look mature (especially if you look young like me and know that most guests will be older) yet showcase your personality. Pulling an LBD out of my closet would have been an easy go-to, however while at H&M to pick up a lace skirt I had on hold I eyed this lace dress. It fit me well (well, at least during the two seconds I had in the fitting room!) so I went for it. I see a million of ways to style this, and in fact, don’t know that this first attempt will be my favorite. I literally had two minutes to throw myself together. Can anyone else relate?! This average girl had a less than average-amount of time to get her tush out the door!

This is me smiling at my daughter (I think I make this face quite often!):

I’ve been dying to add more lace to my wardrobe for spring — no joke, like stalking it out — so obviously this dress was an automatic home run. In truth, it was the contrast of the demure front with the slightly sexier back (plus a gold zipper, love!).

And say hello to my birthday gift, my new Louis Vuitton clutch that’s a fuschia/red color. Quality clutches that will stand the test of time have been at the tops of my wardrobe musts list for a long time. The LV epi leather is so gorgeous up close.

dress: h&m (April 2012) / shoes: max studio elba sandal (spring 2012) / louis vuitton pochette / watch: swatch (2009) / bracelet: derng / earrings: baublebar (from the vault)

I love it Alyson! The back of the dress is amazing! This is a great color on you!

Thanks! The back of the dress totally sold me… and can’t wait to see how this looks when I have a tan (which my husband might have mentioned, hahah)

Darling!!  You cutesy little girls can really score some fun dresses at H&M.  For us tall drinks of water (and over 20-something **cough**), they are inappropriately short.  This looks great, such a right on choice for spring!

    • AvgGirlsGuide

Hear ya on the over 20-something front, lady! Haha, their sizing is also crazy. Yeah, this dress is definitely designed for us shorties however they do have some great items. Worse case: hit up the jewelry and bags section!

hahaha that’s the funniest! I’m impressed I actually figured it out then (though seeing as my top if is totally tiny I probably could wear it either way, lol!). Thanks for a Monday chuckle!

Happy Birthday, girl! You look beautiful.

I actually received that same clutch for my birthday once (well over TEN years ago) and I still love it. Mine is an orange/tan color. The LV Epi pieces are amazing b/c they’re virtually indestructible.  The dress looks lovely on you. Lace pieces can get pricey, but I think that more and more, the larger brands like GAP and Forever are delving into lace so you’ll be able to snag something up that’s not too expensive. Longest comment ever. Done.

Oh, that dress is so pretty!! The possibilities for how you could wear it are endless! And the clutch is so pretty!!  I love your excited smiling face. =)  It’s fun to take outfit pics when the kids are around. I don’t do it often, but when I do, they usually crack me up!

  • Lbdandpearls

Very cute lace dress and cuter smiling lady! Am wondering though if the dress isn’t a bit short for a boss’s dinner party; especially if guests are older than you.  Of course you know the people and the nature of the business!

Love the outfit. Blog question - purchasing a camera, what is a semi-affordable camera to purchase for “blog self outfit pics”. Thanks so much in advance.

I’d recommend investing in a Canon Rebel, which is under $500. Not cheap but makes SUCH a difference compared to even the best point & shoot, in my opinion. This is what I have and I’m thrilled with it (now if only I could take the time to read the manual! haha): http://bit.ly/HKNg60
