best summer beauty finds

May 20, 2014

Every few months I love checking in here with my favorite new beauty finds. I’m an average girl. I’m not the best at applying make-up, doing my hair or testing out a million products to figure out the right one. Find me a good one, and I’ll buy you forever. That said, I’ve been in the market for a few new products (others running low, etc) and with summer on the horizon now’s the time to switch up the routine and make sure you’re using what works, and will last through any heat wave. Trust me: a Florida girl knows the drill. I’ll continue to share new favorites as the season progresses, but with Memorial Day this weekend, here’s a few beauty finds to add to your list for summer…

Summer 2014 Beauty Finds

Keep reading for more on these must-have finds for summer…

NYX Wonder Pencil (or here): my brow bff (remember Connie?) is crazy about NYX, in particular a few products designed for the brows. While I’ve had the hardest time her recs, it did lead me to this gem. Use it for everything: an eye brightener in your inner rim and corner of your eye, as a nude lip liner to help color stay in place (obsessed with doing this now!), and even as a spot concealer. For example, I’ve been using it around my nose to control some redness. I want to buy 20 of these for fear of them disappearing.

Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet Foundation: I did it, I finally splurged. I’ve heard Chanel is where it’s at when it comes to foundations, and I now see why. It provides build able coverage without feeling heavy and best of all, it leaves your skin feeling silky. Not joking. No powder needed. Perfect for summer.

Makeup Forever Lipstick No. 9: I got this as the Sephora birthday gift and went back for the full-size. It’s that good. The color is the perfect statement neutral for any season, it has this semi-matte texture that’s not too drying, and yet stays on for an impressively long time. Definitely plan on checking out more lipsticks from this line… if I’m going to spend $20 on a lipstick, it has to last. This does.

Bare Minerals Lash Domination: I admittedly purchased this last week on a whim. Beauty whim’s don’t often work in my favor but this one did… New favorite! It lengthens, volumizes, separates and defines and adds fullness to my pretty wimpy lashes thanks to a pretty special brush. It’s eliminated much of my smudging/running issues (also looking for a great waterproof mascara if anyone has favorites!).

Naturally Fresh Deodorant: as I’ve becoming more aware of what I’m eating, I’m also focusing on my beauty routine. First test: a new deodorant without aluminum and other parabens. Being honest: I’m a sweaty, and so far in Florida’s 80+ degrees, this has kept me sweat free. It glides on clear and lasts all day. And, it also means I don’t have to worry that our little ones are cuddling up against me and my aluminum-filled armpits! {gross}

M. Steves Rose Hip Seed Oil: Ah, face oil. After hearing the hype, I jumped on the bandwagon. It goes on super smooth; just rub in a circular motion as you apply. After even one use, I woke up the next morning to brighter and more moisturized looking skin. Being candid, I’m awful about remembering but I’m seeing great results even with my 2-3 nights  per week usage.

Living Proof Conditioner: The line made famous by Jennifer Aniston, my friends at my favorite blow dry bar, Airbar, have been touting it for months. I’ve been using this conditioner for two weeks now and love how it blocks the humidity — a Florida must! — moisturizes and doesn’t weigh my hair down. I just using my Sephora 500 points to try the Living Proof sample pack and couldn’t be more excited.  Stay tuned.

    So happy to hear about a natural deodorant that actually works - I’ve been trying to go with more organic beauty products lately and it isn’t easy to find some that really do a good job. Will definitely be checking this one out :)

    I am always on the hunt for a highly pigmented lip color that wont dry out my lips. I’ve yet to find something that does not cause them to start cracking and flaking and really, is there anything less attractive than bold dried out lips?
    Thanks for the recommendations!

    I love MUFE, I use so many of its products. The lipsticks are amazing, for sure! The NYX Wonder Pencil is such a lifesaver, isn’t it? So many uses, it’s perfect. I think I need to try the deodorant and the Chanel foundation, too now. I also looooove Living Proof’s entire line, so great. Awesome roundup, Alyson!
