outfit: burgundy + leopard

November 12, 2013

I have the hardest time finding pants that fit well. Doesn’t help that I have quite a few pairs in my closet that no longer fit, or at least fit the way they should. Since I’m finally coming to terms with that reality, I’ve starting purchasing a few pairs of new bottoms to diversify my wardrobe (can’t be a million tops and two bottoms!). These Gap khakis are my happy new addition. They’re cozy and totally perfect with flats, yet can still head to work with a pair of heels. And, ps: I’m totally addicted to this burgundy hue, particularly when it’s paired with leopard. Have you tried this pairing yet?

Outfit: Office to Happy Hour

January 28, 2013

For those days when I’m heading from a day full of meetings to an evening event, be it a cocktail reception, happy hour or a work event, I love to balance a bit of sparkle and fun with something professional that can take me through the day without a quick 6 p.m. change. An outfit like this is a favorite for its weekday versatility, and both of these pieces can go so many ways. I’ve worn this top with black pants for work and with denim for a Saturday afternoon (and it reminds me that I can also mix gold and silver!); I just scooped up this skirt, also from LOFT, and it’s much needed: personality without a too-short hemline!

Outfit: Black & White

January 21, 2013

This was I-must-get-out-the-door-in-two-seconds (and take these photos before daughter tries to jump in each!). While — as you know I normally gravitate toward a big colorful necklace to punch up a look — this outfit felt most natural without it. I just got this blouse at H&M and it’s a new favorite. Not too baggy, not too tight (replacing an old button down I have just donated since I’m finally being honest that if/when it fits again the fit will be outdated! ) and it’s light-weight for year-round wear. Had it been cooler, I would have thrown on my new leopard coat I’ve been dying to wear and swapped out the heels.

Kinda Like a Dress

January 7, 2013

Ahh, date night! We headed to Hard Rock in Ft. Lauderdale on Saturday night to see Jerry Seinfeld and I had about two seconds to throw something together. I’ve seen seeing bloggers put an oversize blouse with a skirt and the ‘drop waist’ style is in now, so I thought, hey, let’s try this while I’ll be in another city. Ha! So much to get dressed up when it’s doubtful you’ll run into other people you know, right? I know it brings out the adventurer in me. While this isn’t crazy or anything, it was a new style for me and I’m loving the result. Since the skirt has an elastic waist the blouse didn’t work partially tucked in so instead I hiked up the skirt a bit, and let the shirt hang (with the skirt at the original length, it looked blah, the dimensions were off). I adore how the ankle straps give it a sexy vibe, even though my top half is totally covered.

More of the look…
