Compliments: Feels Good to Say Thank You!

June 7, 2011

So proud of myself that I had to share with you:
a girlfriend I hadn’t seen recently told me today when I saw her that I looked great. My response:
THANK YOU…
ya know, I FEEL GREAT!
Wow. My response caught me off guard because I find it hard to take a compliment.
Are you good at taking compliments and appreciating them, or do you instead say “oh please, my hair looks like a mess today” or “thanks but my thighs are about to explode they’re so huge!”
(don’t lie: so many of us are guilty of it!).
Ya know what?
I walked away feeling REALLY great about myself… and my response.
Try taking a compliment sometime.
You’ll like it.

I have a hard time with compliments too… but in a backwards way. I feel so awkward when I get them that I make a joke. I probably would have said "Yeah, I am pretty great aren't I?"

Ohhhh… one day I'll grow out of it! But I resolve to not feel awkward next time and to do as you did! :)

I am also guilty of not saying thank you and leaving it at that. I usually say thanks and then say something horrible about myself to offset the compliment. Definitely something I need to change!

I always say thank you and blush unless the compliment is coming from my husband - because then I say something stupid like 'yeah right'…but I've been pushing myself to just say thank you..

This is such a great message and I agree that being able to accept a compliment isn't always easy, but it feels so good when you finally can!

Aww yay! You go girl! I used to have a huge problem taking compliments from people because I felt unworthy or something.. I'm so happy to hear that you're getting better at it, hun! <3
