A Sweet 4th of July Treat

July 3, 2012

As I mentioned yesterday, this 4th of July happening on a Wednesday has totally thrown me off. I’ve already indulged in plenty of food and it’s just Tuesday so I quickly made these little treats to satisfy my sweet tooth craving without going crazy in the calories and fat department. I first made this little faux ice cream sandwiches years ago while on Weight Watchers. Once frozen, the Cool Whip tastes a lot like an ice cream sandwich. For some patriotic flair, simply add sprinkles, and ta-da! You’re ready to celebrate. They’re good without anything on the sides however the topping options are really endless. TAGG note: back in the day I made these with fat-free Cool Whip but now it tastes weird to me (and has loads of ingredients I can’t even pronounce!). Go for whichever version you like best.

Ingredients
Graham Crackers (one sheet per sandwich)
Cool Whip, low-fat
Red, white and blue sprinkles

Prep
Break each sheet in half.
Add a dollop of Cool Whip and close sandwich.
Place sprinkles in a shallow bowl or plate and then dip in each side of the sandwich.
Lay on a plate or a sheet or parchment paper and put in the freezer until frozen. Indulge!

Should have clarified! I found these together in the Publix baking aisle by the other sprinkles.

Um…. YUM!! I love frozen cool whip (is that weird?!) I usually put it on top of fruit for a semi-healthy dessert, but this is an even better and tastier idea! YUM!

Haha, clearly not weird since I have this recipe up. :) Love your idea, too!!

Thanks, Brittney! Think chocolate sprinkles would be a great idea, too, if you’re a chocolate fanatic like me!

Love those!  My aunt used to do that to my peanut butter sandwiches.  This is a great twist!!

    • Alyson

Mmm, now you have me thinking! What about a thin layer or peanut butter and then add in the cool whip? All kinds of amazing.
