sequins

As soon as I saw this dress online I had to have it. It’s from 6pm.com…  you know, that site I’m pretty much always referencing on social media when I find an awesome deal. My deal-scouring blogger friend Jodi told me about awhile back; every day they have sales on different brands so the prices fluctuate… I’ve scored insane bargains over the years on Steve Madden, Cole Haan, Nine West & Sketchers for my girl and me. I’ve been seeing them pop up with more clothing but I’ll be honest that it’s been hard to take my focus from the shoes (truth). This dress — I’ve since decided every girl needs a classy sequin dress in her closet — was my first clothes order, and I know Heather in my office though just purchased Under Armour gym clothes for a solid fraction of what she usually pays.

Recently, 6pm.com asked me to create a neutral-themed spring outfit (one of my favorite recent emails since I’m already borderline obsessed!) so I immediately got to work. While I saw at least 100 dresses that could fit the bill this sequin number immediately caught my eye. I love that it feels glam and kind of sexy, yet not at all revealing or too tight. It’s going to be perfect for a forthcoming cocktail reception in May. Keep Reading —>>

Ever have those days where you feel like you’re trying to dress for multiple occasions? Business meeting and cocktails, or super casual meeting and then a fancier lunch meeting? I swear this happens nearly weekly by working with such a range of clients, but this time of year it can be crazier than ever. One perk? Somehow sequins — in moderation and in the right context — somehow become work appropriate! This skirt from last year has become an instant favorite for this exact reason, and despite it being a bit warmer in Florida than elsewhere (anyone else see that map image floating around on Facebook about how everyone hates our warm weathered state?!), it’s fun to put on a pair of booties and light-weight sweater for that holiday feel.

SEQUINS FOR WORK TIPS: If you do sequins, do it sparingly and make sure the rest of your outfit is more covered and work appropriate. A sequin shell topped with a blazer or cardigan is another instant win. Wear sequined heels, or find a bag with a bit of glam. You know what works best in your office, however if you think there’s wiggle room, now’s the time to make it work!

Sequins

December 27, 2012

sweater (amazing with the distressed denim + heels) || blazer (more classic than you think!) || peplum top || sequin tee || aztec print mini (have + amazing!)|| black shift (rough it up with a denim jacket + faux fur snood)|| girl’s sequin striped tunic (just $8.99 for your little twin!) || clutch (use mine all the time) || turban || sparkly flats (comes in five colors) || metallic sweater || polka dot top || striped sequin cardigan (perfect for work + weekend)

Let’s pretend this post is timed to New Year’s Eve because people say it’s the best time to load up on sequins. Truth be told, any day is the best day! We don’t do New Year’s like we used to — so much happier in comfier clothes (ok, with a bit of sparkle), good friends and bubbly. Plus, rough to go out when the little one doesn’t sleep in (in fact, somehow she’s usually up earlier. Brutal). Ring in the new year and continue through 2013 with a little sparkle in your life, and your wardrobe. In smaller quantities it’s totally work appropriate, too. Everything just feels a bit more special.

NYC Style

September 10, 2012

Last week I spent five days in New York City, attending a blogger conference hosted by Lucky Magazine as well as Fashion’s Night Out and a handful of other events. The week was spectacular. Honestly, words can’t even describe. I stayed with Kimberly and Tiffany, blogger friends who I’m thrilled to say are now ‘in real life’ (IRL) friends. We had the best time, getting to know each other, killing our feet with long walks around the city, drinking lots of champers and of course, shopping and outfit planning. Here’s three looks I donned from the week…

vegan leather dress:  tinsley road via piperlime  || purse: rebecca minkoff mini mac || necklace: target (deal! borrowed from kimberly and so similar to this for six times more) || watch: swatch

sequin blouse: loft (2010) || cargo vest: old navy (similar) || jeans: joe’s || gold bow flats: sara (similar/totally amazing) || necklace: c/o my talented friend, brianna || bag: gap (2010)

sequin baseball tee: joe fresh (nyc purchase) || skirt: purchased in stowe, vermont (similar, for under $20) || heels: nine west (ancient!) || necklace: bauble bar monogram in medium (get $10 off your first purchase!)
