outfit: my favorite swim suit

No one likes bathing suit shopping. Let’s be honest. It’s brutal. I love spending my weekend mornings with my family at our community pool, so need a suit that’s going to look good but also deal with splashing, jumping, you name it. Last year I was frantic for a new suit; everything was stretched, ill fitting or a bikini — perfect for lounging by the water in Puerto Rico on vacation, not tossing my girl in the air and hanging with my neighbor.

Since one-pieces rarely work for my body, tankinis have become my summer best friend. Last year, I discovered this {magical} wall at Target with mix-and-match suits. No crazy patterns… just solids, stripes and maybe some dots. I purchased the navy and white stripe top you see here (I also have the matching bottoms) and have proceeded to wear it to death. Can you tell? I swear they’ve been worn minimum 30 times in chlorine and the salt water, and subsequently washed and dried. It looks and feels new. I get compliments, and also feel good wearing it. This year, I added the mint to my collection; these bottoms and the solid top, which comes with a removable strap.

While I’m admittedly really anxious about putting myself out there in a bathing suit — I’m just a real girl with her own insecurities — I’ve also learned that this is my body, who I am, and I can either enjoy my time at the pool or I can hide while at the pool, and here. More important to make me happy, and this bathing suit goes a lot way.

IMG_8285PS: also love these tankini tops because I’ve put this on with my cut-off shorts seen below, walked into our favorite bagel shop, Brooklyn Water Bagel, (it’s become a weekend ritual) and feel appropriately covered up. Love how it gently skims away from my belly.

bathing suit top: target  (similar; great colors!) // bottoms: ℅ target // shorts: joe’s jeans (similar) // denim tank: ℅ target // sandals: tory burch (look for less; another option) // bag: homegoods (found in laundry section; perfect for all my family’s towels!) // necklace: jordann jewelry // sunglasses: kate spade

Tankini are so much more practical than a one piece. You look great and have nothing to worry about! Really like how the top looks so cute with your shorts.

Adorable, kid-friendly, and age appropriate. One piece swimsuits are so uncomfortably hot, and I mean…there’s just certain places and situations where there’s a need to cover up (not that you are old or Moms shouldn’t show some skin.) You are keeping it classy and fun in this one!

Haha, you are so right, Ash! One thing if you’re laying out at your own pool, but when kids, and lots of families are involved finding that this is the way to go.

You look great in this suit! Despite all be best efforts, I have one suit I got years ago and keep going back to. I’d love to find something new, but every body has its own challenges!

I am also completely in love with your necklace, and what a gorgeous neighborhood pool you get to enjoy!

    Chic on the Cheap

Thanks! I hear ya on going back to the same bathing suit… it’s why I’m even wearing this year-old tankini instead of a new one. I just love the stripes, everything about it, and it’s wearing insanely well. Recommend testing these out if/when you’re ready. They also have bikini options so the matching options are endless.
