Book Review: Gone Girl

October 30, 2012

BOOK: GONE GIRL

About: It was Nick and Amy’s fifth anniversary when all of a sudden things go terribly wrong. Instead of celebrating, Amy goes missing and who quickly becomes the prime suspect? The husband, whose string of lies, deceit and odd behavior to the police and in front of media as the case drags on don’t win him any husband-of-the-year awards. But could a few lies mean he murdered his wife? Filled with clever, sharp prose, the thriller is a real page-turner.

TAGG review: Gone Girl is a complex read with even more complex characters whose insights get in your head as you devour this quick read. While this average gal is not typically a thriller fan when it comes to reads, we also devoured Hunger Games and 50 Shades of Grey (talk about a year of diverse reading!) so it’s no wonder this best seller quickly brought us in, too.

More than a thriller through, it’s how the characters entangle, intertwine, love, hate and dance around each other that are at the core of why this book has become so popular. The author, Gillian Flynn, writes the book where the narrative shifts between Nick and Amy, something that could be complicated to keep up with but instead helped move the book along more speedily.

Verdict: I was kept on edge, annoyed, shocked, frustrated and down right maddened during Gone Girl. Therefore, a must read!

NEXT on TAGG’s reading list: lighter reading with Concierge Confidential and Most Talkative (both on TAGG’s summer reading list).

What’s on your list??

Same, a few people here and on FB mentioned WILD so will have to give it a try. Need a light read next, though.

It was a great read..up until the ending. I hated how it ended. Perhaps that’s the annoyance you speak of?! Better writing than 50 Shades, that’s for sure!

    • Alyson

I totally did too but I guess I give it to the author for doing that, not going the easy or predictable, right?

We read this for our book club. I was hooked on the first page, and then HATED the end! Everyone in my book club was pretty much in agreement. With that said, 80% of the book is well worth the read! ;)

    • Alyson

Right?? I felt the same way but then again, what fun would it be as we anticipated, right? So I “get that” even if I don’t like the author did it! Ha.
