Maxi Skirt Madness

August 23, 2012

As we get closer to September (i.e. Fall), are you like me where you want to start thinking about Fall style even if it’s 95 degrees still? While I’m sad thinking about putting away some of the neon and denim cut-offs I can’t wait for layers, boots and slouchy, cozy sweaters. I live in Florida without a real winter so items like maxi skirts are incredibly versatile as the season starts to change and as it gets even cooler (just add tights and boots!).

NEXT STEPS: Find a maxi skirt (I adore this, this and def. this!), or take your summer maxi dress and start to layer. It’s our little secret that a full-length dress is hiding underneath! Take a close look at the above photos for inspiration; think vests, jackets, cozy sweatshirts, moto jackets, or belted with the perfect white button-down for a work-appropriate look.

Are you a maxi skirt girl, or are you considering it?

Just this week… I found and bought a FABULOUS black maxi skirt at TJ Maxx and it’s the most stylish/ comfortable/ flattering thing. I can’t get ENOUGH of it! LOVE it.

Yay, that’s great news. A black maxi can be worn a million ways. Enjoy!

Love maxi skits. I’m tall so they actually work well for me but i think the right cut would work on just about anyone! love the black and white one you showed from Runningonhappiness. I noticed that one a few days ago and wanted to replicate it myself!

Totally agree… that white one looks amazing. And, def think the right cut can work on anyone. you definitely have an advantage with your height… can pull off some bolder styles and prints!

Do Maxi skirts and dresses work well on Short women? am 5.2 and I feel I will drown in them :) How can I style a Maxidress so that I don’t end up looking like am too tiny….

    • littleblacksweats.com

RK, I’m not sure I’d wear a maxi skirt (I’m 5’3″), but short women can definitely get away with maxi dresses. A solid color, or a print that is well-proportioned will create a long line making you look taller. Adding some sexy wedges helps too! (Sorry Alyson, didn’t mean to step on toes!)

Never stepping on toes… we’re a team around here. :) thanks!!

Thanks so much for replying!! I got inspired and got a maxi dress and wedges ;) Hope to rock them this spring!!!!

I definitely agree with the comment below; I’m just 5’3 and have found them very flattering (and comfortable!). It definitely creates a long seamless line. Go with a black or navy to keep the line flowing and consider wearing with a pair of wedges if you want some extra height. ANd, just remember to keep your top half attire a bit more fitted.

Thanks !!!!!! :D Long seamless line that was my focus when I got the dress, but I chose a grey blue design ;) a little play with colors!! :) Will soon try black, dark blue etc…
