Outfit: Stripes and Florals

July 9, 2012

Love that mixing patterns is so “in” right now. Frankly, it expands my wardrobe and makes me a bit more creative in my outfit choices. Do you feel the same? I bought this shirt at Banana Republic this spring, knowing it could pair with anything (and it has a small zipper by the neck…sold!) and I’ve had this floral skirt for seasons. I know florals is one of the patterns of this year, but I got this maybe five years ago. It’s been a closet VIP, as I’ve also paired it with almost every bright color in the skirt, and have mixed the shoe choices up, too.

When buying a new article of clothing, experts often suggest thinking of at least three ways you can integrate it into your wardrobe. I agree yet TAGG also suggests feeling comfortable picking up classic items a little beyond your comfort zone (as this skirt was years ago) that you feel pretty confident you’ll warm up to. Do you also have a few items that when you initially bought it got little use yet a few years later is your absolute favorite? Best. moment. ever! It’s like you just got the best new item… yet it didn’t cost you a penny!

blouse: banana republic // skirt: inc via macy’s (2007-08; similar… love these two: j. crew (great sale!) or topshop) // heels: nine west (another closet vip; 2007?) // clutch: zara (2011; similar or try this) // bracelets: h&m

I am always SO hesitant to put stripes and florals together because in Kansas people think you are insane! I love the look and maybe I just need a little push to do it but I really do love this look!

I felt this way for a LONG time but I say, work it! :) You can start with a blouse and then an accessory, like a striped or animal print bag. GOod luck… I vote you go for it.

Cute skirt! I love finding old items in my closet that I’m suddenly into all of the sudden— totally worth all that closet space it’s been taking up! ha

i love stripes and floral, years ago i would never have thought to put them together, but it just looks fab. Your outfit is perfect! really is! x

  • RealGirlGlam

This is the perfect mixing of prints. I love that the stripes are a bit more sublet and the floral is bold! Looks great together and definitely very versatile/classic pieces. Such a cute look!

Love this look. I have been meaning to test out somthing similar. It’s not just the print mixing it’s the soft pink mixed with the navy stripe. Loves it.
