New Year: Get Organized

January 4, 2012

It’s a New Year, so now is the time add more organization to your life and home. TAGG featured last week ways to organize your closet and make the most of your wardrobe, and now here are around the house inspiration photos to get 2012 started in an organized, colorful fashion! Two favorites: Total genius duh’s: cord labels (made from bread ties!) and to make your laundry room more than stark white walls and place you’re relegated to without any fun visuals. Add colorful walls, artwork, even a chandelier!

With the prospect of us moving in the next month or two, these photos — which I can’t stop pinning! — are offering excellent ideas and inspiration for this non-interior design gal. Which are your favorite, or do you have your own genius organization ideas?

I’d KILL for that laundry room. In fact. I’d probably bring in an air mattress and live there!

Great inspiration pictures! I’m obsessed with organizing. My fav tip has always been to only handle any piece of paper that crosses your hands ONCE- meaning deal with it immediately! Pay it if it’s a bill, file it, respond to it if it’s a letter, etc. This avoids the paper pile-up!

    • Alyson

Jackie: YES! I’ve heard that before and have started putting it into practice lately… it’s helping to avoid piles and take action on items. Great words of wisdom!

LOL, same… that’s why I’m loving Pinterest; it’s become my pro! Now if it could just do all the legwork for me….

Love these ideas – I am an orgnization nut! I made that DIY dry-erase frame for my menu planning…that way I can plan meals ahead of time and the kids can look at it and they know what we’re having for dinner (instead of asking me a million times)! :)

    • Alyson

I saw a menu planning board… SO smart! I need to do that so I can make better meals all week; there’s so all over the place.

Ha, yes, get crafting!! I wish I had all this space too however it’s great because it helps create other ideas in my head to see what others have done. Good luck with your DIY!!

The laundry room! I love it! Okay, so the lesson for that one is bright color for the walls and a chandelier! I wish I had a laundry room now :( I really like the pantry bins, that’s ingenius! I think Ikea has them for rather inexpensive…

Right? One day… just paint any room a bright color! I’m all about it now when we move… instead of a drab white.

These are all so incredibly useful. I’m an obsessive organizer and decorator. You’d think these things go hand-in-hand, but as a duo they actually have potential to drive a girl completely mad!
Organizing Maven (is there such a thing?) = purge, purge, purge.
Decorator Extraordinaire = acquire, treasure, display.
This post has got to be the best thing since sliced bread. Although I am drooling over the laundry rooms, I’m completely taken with the drawer-pull jewelry rack and the bread-tie labels :)

Hi! Jumped to you from the BonBon Rose Girls! I so need to do something like the with my jewelry, which is usually in a huge tangle despite my best intentions. Maybe a little DIY jewelry board will motivate me to stay organized!

    • Alyson

Thanks for stopping by! TOtally agree. I did a mini jewelry organization last year however this is way more impressive. Go for the DIY jewelry board; how fun!

I literally want to jump through my screen into these rooms, Alyson! Such great inspiration for organizing in the new year! xoxo

    • Alyson

hahaha, hysterical! Right? Glad it provided some extra inspiration to you… you have the best home design taste and ideas!

  • Lori

Using bread bag ties for cord organization is brilliant! Those little things are so handy. I have a large stash that I use for my knitting. I am a bit curious as to why the there is a chandelier in the laundry room in the first pic. Strange

    • Alyson

I know! What do you save the ties for with knitting? (I’m so clueless, though eager to learn how to knit!). As for the chandelier, I actually love it though lately I could hang a chandelier anywhere… they’re just so pretty.
