Hair Love: Braids

June 1, 2011

Holla! Check out my guest post this week on Live FabuLESS where I share tips how to look fashionable for less. Check it out here. Who doesn’t want this??

Oh… and this is my 300th post! Party time! Thanks for reading, ladies.
—————————————-

I’m in major braid infatuation mode.

And, I don’t think it’s just me.
Maybe it’s a seasonal thing because all of a sudden I want to add cool, casual braids to my hair like I’m a free-spirited chick of the ’70s. I’ve seen them popping up more and more, too.
Just check out this InStyle piece featuring 25 hair looks for summer; at least a half dozen are braids!
While the look seems as 2011 as it does 1976, I feel like I’m reverting back to the early 2000s when Lauren Conrad first started sporting them on the Hills ages ago.  Remember this?
They just seems so carefree and effortlessly cool.
But, umm.. for me, they’re not so much! Lol.
Between the growing-out bangs, just shoulder-length hair and naturally slight Jew ‘fro (honest), it’s been challenging to make those cool braids work on my head. I’ve seen some celebs, bloggers and hot-hair gals pull off the look summer after summer so I’m ready. I’ve been testing them in my hair lately so you just might see one in an upcoming outfit post.
Until then, wanted to provide you some photo inspiration.
The options are endless, whether it’s just a few small ones, fishtail, side swept, across the top of your head, you name it. I love ‘em all!

Ok, ok, you’re probably noticing the same thing I am. As a gal with a “minority” hair color, haha, I’m wondering… where’s the hair color diversity?! Lots of blondies seem to pull off this braided look well.
I say to everyone… let’s show them!
Not sure where to begin?
You MUST check out hair braiding tutorials by one of my favorite bloggers, the gal behind …Love Maegan. Yes, she has perfectly straight (or wavy, depending on the day!) blondish brown hair that almost seems too-good-to-be-true, yet once you start reading her blog, you’ll love her just the same. If you haven’t been to her site, take a minute between braiding festivities to check it out.
Absolutely ADORE her creative outfit posts, impressive DIYs, and her latest adventures in decorating her new office space (she promises it’s almost ready; I’m dying to see!).

I am so uncoordinated when it comes to my hair, but I love the look of braids! In the Sally Beauty flyer I just got in the mail they show this braided headband – http://www.sallybeauty.com/braided-headband/DWTS03,default,pd.html?cm_vc=SEARCH

Seriously thinking about buying it! Ha!

Oh my goodness, that last braid is gorgeous! I just sported a braid for the first time recently to keep my longish bangs tamed while at the beach and it totally worked! I'm hooked on braids for summer . . . unless I end up getting that pixie cut I've been eyeing. =)

I have super long hair right now & desperately want to learn how to do all of these, they are beautiful!! Thanks for the inspiration!!

I've always loved braids since I was little (made my mom braid ribbons into my all the time when I was in kindergarten)! Unfortunately my baby fine hair doesn't like to cooperate when I try to braid it myself, and I don't have enough hair to pull off some of the styles that are popular at the moment. I'm hoping to find a few new ways to wear it this summer, though, as I get a little bored with my 3-4 usual styles.

    P.S. Great guest post!

I love the braids I do them all the time. I think you could totally pull them off :)

    Have a great day :)

I used to LOVE braiding my hair. Even though my hair is very long, I can't do it myself and hubby has to help. Not sure he could do the braid thing LOL.

I love the braids. My hair is still in a weird layer stage, so braiding is difficult. I'm hoping by the end of summer it will be long enough to pull off!

Glad I'm not the only one who admires — yet feels challenged by — braids!

Tiffany: pixie cuts are great for summer; so much cooler.

Kimberly: braided headband could be cool. Just have to get the hair to match!

Tara: can't wait to see another outfit post where you mix up the hair look!

Alicia: thinking the same… hair just needs to grow out some to make it look as cool as I'd like.

Jamie: haha, yeah, braids for a guy?! THat would be impressive!

Feel free to laugh at me, but I just figured out how to braid my hair last year.
    I know, right?
    LAME.
I love the look of braids. I really should braid my hair more often. I never think about it!

I love braids too … just need to learn how to do the fish tail ones. They always seem way to hard to me!

It's funny becuase my most viewed post ever is one which discusses the Lauren Conrad braid. I totally used to do my hair like that. Love the braided looks :)
